Last Game & Awards - May 8th

It seems like it came up so quickly, but the last game is here! As is tradition, we will be announcing ribbon winners for each team and handing out certificates and trophies for each player. We are so excited to see everyone and conclude another amazing Cielo season! The best part is that we get to play against our own Cielo teams, and they will end a few minutes early to give us additional time for our end-of-season celebrations.

Big Weekend - Game #4 & State Tournament

This is a BIG weekend for Cielo soccer! We have Game #4 at Summit Academy on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, nine qualifying Cielo teams will be representing our location at the State Tournament in Scottsdale! We can't wait to see everyone this weekend! Game #4 Schedule at Summit Academy

Tournament Weekend - GOOOOOO Cielo!!!

 We hope you are all getting excited for the tournament this weekend!  It's been a year since our last tourney, and we can't wait!   It will be a beautiful day, with a low of 59, a high of 83 with a couple clouds and mountains in the backdrop. 

***If you are not registered, there will be NO regular season games tomorrow.***

Each team is scheduled to play three games on their designated day, so please view the attached schedule for their game times/fields.  Coach Sean will be running the command tent on the North Side (younger kids), and Erin will be hopping around to the different fields to watch our girls play!

This season, they have created a live document that has tabs at the bottom that will be tracking scores which are used to determine ranking throughout the day.  There will also be QR codes around the complex that you can scan to get a live update of your team's progress.  There are multiple tabs on the live Excel document below, so be sure you check out the updates throughout the day.

WHERE: 8081 E. Princess Drive, Scottsdale, 85255 at the Scottsdale Soccer Complex, park on the north side of the complex.

 

ARRIVE: Please arrive 45-60 minutes before your first game to check in down at the fields at the command tent (not by the parking lot), then find your team and warm up.

 

WHAT TO BRING: Bring lots of water, food / snacks (avoid sugary foods between games) for our players and canopy tents if you have them.  Please share when possible while promoting safe distancing (masks are not required but encouraged).  We were supposed to have a food vendor on-site, but Covid apparently hit a couple of the workers. We are working on new food vendors. Otherwise, there are many restaurants about 5-10 minutes away.

 

THE GAMES: Remember, mistakes happen during games refereeing.  It happens in championship games of World Cup matches, so they will certainly happen in Scottsdale with our Activstars crew who is doing their best.  It’s the nature of officiating. There is no instant replay – we just move on.   Remember to have fun and cheer on kids from both teams.  The event is really about the kids learning and having fun. Winning a trophy is just icing on the cake and shouldn’t be the focus. 

QUALIFYING FOR STATE: The teams with the top points (W/L/D/Score) that will be advancing to State Finals will be announced at the awards ceremony at the command tent directly after each team's 3rd/final game of the day.  You can also monitor your child's team on the Schedule/Score document link (see above).  This season, the State Tournament will be on Sunday, May 2nd and is an additional fee, but teams get two games guaranteed, including a third if they win their first game to reach the semifinals. We usually have the highest number of teams advancing to State than any other site, but we also reiterate to the kids and parents, we are here to learn, improve, and have fun!  Regardless of qualification, we are proud of ALL of our Cielo teams.  Our players and parents always represent Cielo with sportsmanship, humility, and camaraderie.

Game 2 - Woohoo!!!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend filled with fun, family and food!  We enjoyed lots of family time and beautiful weather.  Tomorrow, we are playing game 2, then we head straight into the Tournament on April 17th and 18th.  

2 UPDATES

• The game schedule for tomorrow (4/10) has a few updates, but mostly affect the older teams.
• Barcelona is at Summit tomorrow, but three of the older teams are traveling

TOURNAMENT

• Cielo will be represented by 11 teams at the spring Desert Cup Tournament!
• Tournament registrations is still open, but only some of the teams have openings
• If you're still interested in registering for tournament, speak with Coach Sean tomorrow
• Check the tournament schedule to make sure your child has been placed on a team
• Some players are not placed with the normal Saturday group/team due to combining some teams and placement to ensure all players will have adequate field time

Register for Tournament Before the Deadline - April 2nd & NO Games Easter Weekend (4/3)

The Desert Cup Tournament is the premier event of the season.  Even if you're not sure whether or not you're able to make it, register BEFORE the April 2nd deadline to lock-in the Early Reg. price ($20 savings!).  You can receive a refund / credit if unable to attend. 

Your child's team will be scheduled to play either Saturday or Sunday, and they are guaranteed three games that day.  Teams that qualify, will move on to play at the State Tournament in May.

 We are so excited for games to start this Saturday!  Please review the team assignments and game schedule below.  If you have any questions, email Erin at cielosoccer@gmail.com.   There will be four fields set-up up at Summit, and the fields will be labeled.  The original schedule that will be sent from ActivStars will have two "Summit United" teams, however, the 7-8 year old Summit United team has changed to Cielo Typhoons. Double rostered players have an asterisk * by their name, so be on the lookout (only a few).  The 7-8 year old teams are playing at two different hours, so double check the time for your child's team.

Game Day Reminders

• Arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled game time
• Go directly to our check-in table (normal spot) for temperature check and verify you've checked in

Last Practice & Team Breakdown

 In a blink of a eye, we are going to have our last practice...then it's we start games!  Tomorrow will be very important as we will be fine-tuning skills and scrimmaging in preparation for games next week.  Coach Sean will be breaking down teams and making final changes to the roster, so make sure you're there!  Any help on the field will be much appreciated to help position the kids properly and it's a good coaching experience, as the upcoming Desert Cup Tournament is parent-coached.  Sign-up early to save $20 on registration fees (link below).

Week 3 Practice & Gearing Up for Games!

 Hopefully, you've had a restful spring break, or if you're like us, it's just beginning!  We are excited to hop out on those fields tomorrow and hoping for some cool weather after a nice drizzle today.  Including tomorrow, we have two more practices and we are starting games! 

Most of you have done a great job of checking in on the app BEFORE practice which makes sign-in quick and painless.  All players still need to be signed-in at the table before they enter the field, but after a quick signature and temperature check, they are on their way!

Week 2 Practice Info & Reminders

 Tomorrow is our first day of regular practice times, and we are so excited!  We know the location isn't ideal, but we weren't informed as to why were moved from the other locations and the most recent spot was conducive of an effective and fun practice.

A few things to remember:

• Download the ActivStars app if you haven't done so already
• Check-in on the app BEFORE you get to the field (makes check-in process quicker)
• Even if you'd paid in full for the season, you still need to mark attendance on the app weekly
• Sign-in at the table upon arrival
• ALL players and spectators need their temperature checked before getting on the field
• Uniform and practice pinnie purchases can be made online through the ActivStars website
• Bring plenty of water - there will be no water available on site
• Comfy clothes, cleats, shinguards, and a MASK

Practice Times:

• 9:00 am - 5-6 year olds
• 10:00 am - 7-8 year olds
• 11:00 am - 9-10 year olds
• 12:00 pm - 11-15 year olds

Spring soccer is about to begin!  We are so excited to be back after a longer than normal winter break.  You have probably noticed a variety of location updates, but our final and confirmed location is at SUMMIT ACADEMY (old game site) this season.  Below are some basic first-day reminders and some updated Covid protocols.

Covid Procedures:

• Must check-in weekly, at the table, for no-touch digital check-in
• ALL players and spectators (parents, siblings, grandparents) will need to have their temperature checked (no-touch) before going to the field
• PLAYERS must wear a mask
• Players can removed mask when on the field and socially distant
• Families do not have to wear masks while sitting in household groups and socially distant from other families
• When not socially distant, masks must be worn

We know these changes are not ideal, but they are procedures we need to follow in order to be able to play together.  We are so excited to play, we are just excited to see everyone and be out there!

Spring Soccer is Official OPEN!!!

 Soccer registration for the spring 2021 season is officially open!  We have been awaiting news and are so excited to see everyone again soon!  Due to the ever-changing circumstances, they have changed our location again.  Luckily, Estrada Park is beautiful and not too far from our normal "zone", so we hope you love it too!   Other than that, the season will look pretty similar to what it was last season with the new Covid protocols.  We will keep you in the loop of any changes that may arise, but we are hoping for positive news as we head toward spring.  The details for the upcoming season are below, so be sure to register as soon as possible.
